Algoma Diabetes Education and Care Program (ADEC), a member program of the Northern Diabetes Health Network (NDHN) ( http://www.ndhn.com) is hosted by the Group Health Centre. It is open to the general public who have been diagnosed with diabetes. Self referrals as well as referrals from your health care provider. The program offers a full range of services including:
• Nurses, dietitians, physicians and social workers who are available to work with you and your physician in managing your diabetes.
• Adult, pediatrics, pregnancy and diabetes prevention.
• Individual assessment, education, care and follow-up is provided to all clients through a combination of individual and group sessions.
• Specialty education classes are available to all clients, these include label reading, active living, stress management and portion control.
ADEC also engages in diabetes outreach to satellite communities in the Algoma region. This program provides health promotion and diabetes awareness to service groups, schools and other health care agencies.

• Books, pamphlets, videotapes, and cookbooks etc. available at your local office
• Advocacy: working with municipal, provincial, territorial and federal governments to ensure they recognize diabetes as one of the most significant public health issues in Canada today and take action to address it

Located on a bus route and provides free parking
• Provides a resource center focused on educating the public about risk factors and prevention of heart disease and stroke. Also administers information and resources to the survivors of stroke and heart attacks
• Free weekly blood pressure screening is available to the public on Thursdays from 1pm–4pm
