According to Dona, "Paige and Grant are third generation patients, as she has been a patient at GHC her entire life and her parents Stan and Esther Finn are GHC 'original sponsors.' During the early to mid-1960s, 5,000 Sault Ste. Marie residents each gave $135 for a total of $675,000 to build the GHC. That was a special commitment made by these individuals and a lot of money in those days!
Dr. Anne Lee, family practitioner with the Algoma District Medical Group at the GHC provides Dona's care. Paediatrician Dr. David Burrows looks after the children's care.
In addition to the Finn's and the Mathewson's being connected to the Group Health Centre for well over four decades of care, they have other ties.
Esther, who was the Department Head, Registration Services began her retirement in 1998, following 24 years of dedicated service. She continues to dedicate her time as a long-time volunteer with the Group Health Centre Trust Fund. Over the years, Stan has volunteered his time to take part and help out with many Trust Fund events.
Dona Mathewson, is a registered nurse and has been a staff member with GHC's Clinical Support Department for many years and MaryLou (Finn) Connors is the Centre's Manager of Practice Support Services.
